Here’s an interesting video. Interesting in that it was produced in Polaroid snapshots first, then made into a video. Anyway, they say a picture’s worth a thousand words. I wonder how much this video’s worth? Thanks to Hot Air for posting this.
There’s an article on the three known British survivors of World War I (”The Great War” or “The War To End Wars”). One of the three, Bill Stone, gives his “recipe for a long, happy life”…
ex-Royal Navy stoker Bill Stone, 106, the last known ex-serviceman, living in Britain, to have served in both world wars.
He revealed his recipe for a long, happy life. “There are three reasons I’m still living - clean living, a contented mind and faith in the Lord. I’m a lucky man.”
The following quote is taken from today’s Brief from The Patriot Post.
“Bulls don’t praise cows, let alone their Creator. Explaining the phenomenon of praise is a real challenge for the Darwinian; it doesn’t appear to confer any particular advantage in that ruthless struggle for survival we’re always hearing about. I can understand why atheists think religion does a lot of evil, because sometimes it surely does. But they never explain why man wastes so much time and energy in activities they insist are pointless and have no biological utility. If we found all the cattle in the pasture dancing and mooing in unison, wouldn’t we be curious about why they were behaving in this extraordinary fashion? I suppose killing your own children makes some sort of sense from an atheistic and Darwinian point of view. If survival is a ruthless competition, your kids are your competitors, right? No wonder Darwin’s legions are in favor of this ‘choice’.” —Joseph Sobran
Well, Google-earthing the Bible? Anyway, today I came across a nifty web page, “Bible Geocoding”It’s over on the Open Bible
website. Our internet connection’s a bit flaky today, neither Yahoo! nor MSN Messenger programs are logging on and Google Earth’s not making a connection either so I’ll have to wait ’til later to truly surf around. Weird. Anyway, the page referenced above has a number of .kmz files (Google Earth’s pushpin locater links) linked on it. You can download the .kmz links to the whole Bible’s identifiable places or you can scroll down the page and select according to individual books or chapters. We’ve found Google Earth to be fun. It allows you to zoom in on various parts of the world. We used it to get a feel for an area we were going to hunt last year (2006) and we’ve also used it to locate our house from the air and to see where places are in relation to each other. It’s a nifty, free for the download, tool. And now, with the links to Bible places, it promises to be even more useful!
June 15, 1993 That’s a day that lives in my memory. It’s the day my earthly father passed into the presence of his Creator. 14 years later and I still miss him. He was not a perfect man, but he left me a heritage - a desire to know and live by God’s Word. I’ve done my best to imitate what was good in my father and to improve on that which was less desirable. My prayer is that my own sons will learn to do the same - imitate what I’ve done right and do better than I did where I stumbled.
Here’s a couple of items for Father’s day.
The Evangelical Outpost has a good post on “Family Facts - Fathers’ Day Edition”They also posted the following video there, I’m embedding it here as well. Very thought provoking and well done. “Children see. Children do.” What are you projecting for your children to see?
Maintenance. It’s necessary to keep things going, usually. It’s something that drives me nuts when I have to try and convince a mechanic that “We really should do something before it breaks completely.” A while back I took the van we’d acquired to the shop. I asked the mechanic to change ALL THE HOSES AND BELTS UNDER THE HOOD. We’d no idea what maintenance (if any) had been done by the previous owner and I wanted to get the fragile stuff taken care of - so I wouldn’t end up stranded by a busted hose in the middle of nowhere - or rush hour traffic. The mechanic took a look and said “They look fine to me, don’t worry about it.” So I had him pull off one of the hoses and I squeezed it. Sure enough, it looked fine on the outside, but inside it was cracking and full of sediment. So he got to work. When I came back he assured me that “every hose has been changed.” Off I went. Sure enough, about a week later I was in a neighboring town - broke down because he’d NOT changed a hose on the back of the engine.
So what? Big deal! Well, yeah. BUT there’s a point to this rambling. Lives need maintenance. Marriages need maintenance. Nations need maintenance. If you don’t take care of the little things as they come along, you’ll end up with MAJOR problems down the road. Just like that two buck hose on the rear of the engine (what idiot engineer thought to put it there, out of site?) there can be problems brewing in our lives, marriages of nation that need attention NOW, before they get bad. But human nature being what it is (I keep meaning to procrastinate, but keep putting it off ’til tomorrow) we tend to put things off and wait, hoping that we can “just get along”.
Some folks get pretty doggone irritated at me for saying, “We must take care of issues NOW.” That’s fine. SOMEONE needs to voice things. We can pretend that every thing’s OK and muddle on, or we can take care of problems NOW. Issues like illegal immigration should have been cared for years ago. But we need to take care NOW. The Republican Party (”America’s Bastion of Conservatism”) has declined to the point where anyone can claim to be “conservative”, while voting for bigger government, higher taxes, murder of unborn babies and sodomite “marriage”. Sheeshkabob! Something’s wrong when members of both parties have near identical voting records. And we need to demand change NOW.
Why is there little positive change? Because folks are not demanding it. Well, folks WEREN’T demanding it. Today’s glad tidings that the Senate bill to reward law breaking foreign nationals within the United State’s borders shows what can be done - if enough folks scream for change.
Let’s overhaul our nation. Let’s do the maintenance necessary. We can change for the better - if we will but make the effort. Saying that things need taken care of is not bashing our land. Just as I liked the ol’ van when I took it in for maintenance I also love my land - even while calling for folks to get behind an effort to put things in order.
I’ve not really published this blog abroad. It’s setting up there in “Cyber Space” but I’ve not gone to any effort to propagate it around the world. Why? Hmmm. Good question. Perhaps it is lack of self confidance. Perhaps I don’t want to bother with trying to debate those who disagree. When I started this blog it was as a “safety valve”. A place where I can “sound off” - kind of like stepping into a padded room, closing the door and screaming one’s lungs out. It’s a great way to unwind and let off some pressure.
At no time do I pretend that this is some “scholarly endeavor”. Not much time is spent in research (ha, ha, ha, ha - ROTFL) so the resulting stuff that spews across this site is based on various and sundry items I’ve picked up in listening to folks and reading about what’s going on around the world. In other words, it’s based on a very subjective viewpoint. Like one of the blind men trying to define an elephant. I do, however, recognize my limitations. I do NOT know everything. There. You’ve got it in writing. A true confession.
So, am I a coward for not promoting this site? Perhaps. Still, I find it a restful place to hang out and talk with myself. If anyone hears me, well they’ll probably figure I’m nuts. That’s OK because I hope to be “nuts for the Lord”. I may not always do things right, but I do things with a desire to do what is right. Inactivity or silence would be the greater evil many times.
Most of all, I hope that those who stumble on this little corner of my world might be stimulated into seeing things from a different point of view.
For some time I’ve considered setting up a small place on the ‘net where I can ramble, rant, scream or merely pontificate or ponder and folks can ignore me by droves. :-) I think I’m off to a good start. I’ll tweak and tug and pull and primp this installation and then I’ll let folks know where they can ignore me. It’s nice to have an add free place to put up whatever I want. I’ve never been much of one for journaling, but we’ll see how this ‘net version goes.
