Who’s woods these are, I think I know….

“I’ve got a place where you can hunt.” said the e-mail. With all the stress of furlough and the business that comes from a full speaking schedule there had been no time for scouting. During the main season we ended up hunting on public land. It wasn’t as bad as some areas, but still there was the almost continual sound of gunfire all around us on opening day. We were far enough down and away from main roads that few hunters come through, but the feeling of being crowded was persistent. And then came doe season and the e-mail mentioned above. I’ve no idea if my friend knew what he was offering me. Prior to the opening of doe season we got a chance to scout the area a bit. Sign all over the place. Squirrel, turkey, deer, cougar, fox and many more. WOW! What a place! In the hustle and bustle of urban life in the Andes there are few opportunities to get out and see the Lord’s creation. What a soothing relief to get a chance to get away and spend time in field and forest. Later I took time to sneak back and hunt. Squirrel season - a good excuse to “waste time” in the woods. Oh how I thank God for the memories of those hours spent in the woods, seeing His creation and enjoying His presence. Will the memories sustain me through the coming months in the concrete jungle? Yes, I believe they will.
